Operations Manager

About the role

Pro-Active Fire Safety is a twelve-strong, family-run business based on the Globe Estate in Marlow. We install, service and maintain active fire protection systems — fire alarms, emergency lighting, extinguishers, suppression, fire dampers and AOV smoke ventilation — and we deliver fire safety training across the Thames Valley.

The Operations Manager owns delivery. You make sure the right engineer is at the right site with the right parts, that service visits happen inside their due dates, and that the certification that comes back is right first time. You sit between the engineers, the office team and the customer, and you have the authority to make the call.

What you will be doing

• Planning and resourcing the engineering diary across service, remedial and installation work
• Managing the engineering team day to day — workload, standards, development and appraisals
• Holding the service schedule so nothing runs past its due date under BS 5839-1, BS 5266-1 or BS 5306
• Reviewing certification and job paperwork before it goes to the customer
• Owning the remedial pipeline from recommendation through quote to completion
• Handling escalations and being the point of contact for key accounts
• Managing stock, van inventory and supplier relationships
• Keeping health and safety, RAMS and engineer competency records current
• Reporting on delivery performance to the directors and proposing what to fix

What we are looking for

• Operational management experience in fire, security, M&E or building services
• A working understanding of the active fire protection standards, or the technical grounding to get there quickly
• Confident leading engineers who know their trade — firm, fair and straight with people
• Organised under pressure, with the judgement to reprioritise a day when something urgent lands
• Comfortable with service management software and Microsoft Excel
• Full UK driving licence
• Willing to get involved. In a team this size, nobody is only a manager
