General fire safety
Fire risk assessments, fire alarm systems, fire extinguishers, emergency lighting, safety signage, training and compliance support. All work is carried out in line with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, BS 5839-1 for alarms, BS 5306 for extinguishers and BS 5266-1 for emergency lighting.
The Fire Safety Order requires all non-domestic premises to have one. It should be reviewed regularly — annually is the usual recommendation — and whenever the building, its layout or its use changes.

Fire risk assessments
An assessor visits your premises, identifies the fire hazards, reviews the measures already in place, speaks to staff where that helps, and produces a written report with recommendations.
Assessments follow PAS 79:2020 and HM Government fire safety guidance: hazard identification, a review of existing control measures, and an action plan for compliance.
Yes — as the Fire Safety Order requires. It is detailed but readable, with action points and suggested timescales.

Fire alarms and detection
Conventional, addressable, wireless and monitored systems, suitable for all building types and sizes.
Yes — planned maintenance contracts and scheduled servicing. BS 5839-1:2017 requires at least two service visits a year for most systems, and that is what we work to.
Frequent false alarms, fault indicators and ageing equipment are the usual signs. The Fire Safety Order requires regular testing and prompt repair of faults found during weekly or scheduled tests. If a panel is repeatedly in fault or past its service life — typically around ten years — replacement is usually the right call.
BS 5839-1 sets categories by what the system is there to protect. L categories protect life, from L5 covering a specific risk up to L1 covering the whole building. P categories protect property, and M systems are manual only. The right category comes out of your fire risk assessment, and we advise on it as part of a survey.
Fire extinguishers
It depends on your premises and the fire risks in them. We supply water, foam, CO2, powder and wet chemical. Selection follows BS 5306-8:2023, which governs type, location and signage against the identified risks.
Annual servicing by a competent person is required under BS 5306-3:2017. Water, foam and powder also need an extended service at five years, and CO2 extinguishers are overhauled at ten.

Emergency lighting and signage
Yes. Under BS 5266-1:2016 and the Fire Safety Order, most non-domestic sites must provide compliant emergency lighting for safe escape.
It depends on your building's layout and use. We supply and install fire exit, equipment and instructional signage to meet the legal requirements for your premises.
Yes. We issue commissioning certificates to BS 5266-1, which you will need for your fire risk assessment and as evidence of compliance.
Active fire protection explained
Active fire protection is everything that detects, warns about or acts on a fire: alarm systems, extinguishers, emergency lighting, suppression and smoke control. Passive protection is built into the structure — fire doors, compartment walls, fire stopping.
Pro-Active Fire Safety specialises in active fire protection only. If your premises need passive works, we will say so and point you to a specialist.
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 the duty sits with the Responsible Person — usually the employer, and sometimes the owner, landlord or managing agent. It cannot be delegated away by hiring a contractor, but we provide the servicing, certification and records you need to demonstrate compliance.
Yes, and we do it regularly. We survey the existing equipment, confirm its condition and certification status, and pick up the servicing schedule from there. There is no need to replace a system that is working and compliant.
Automatic opening vents clear smoke from stairwells, corridors and lobbies so escape routes stay usable and the fire service can work. If your building has a smoke control system it needs regular testing and maintenance, recorded in your fire safety log book.
An EVAC chair lets someone with limited mobility be evacuated down a staircase safely. If your fire risk assessment identifies occupants who could not use the stairs unaided, you need a plan for them — usually a chair plus trained staff. We supply, install and train.
Yes — 24/7 callout for fire alarm faults and activations across Buckinghamshire and Berkshire. A system in fault is a compliance risk as well as a safety one, so it is worth attending to rather than leaving isolated.
Yes. Every visit is documented and we issue the relevant certificates for alarm, emergency lighting and extinguisher work — which is what satisfies insurers and enforcing authorities.
